The Duck Tape brand of duct tape has a weird college scholarship called the Duct Tape Scholarship. Make prom outfits and accessories out of duct tape and enter a picture of them in an online contest to win a duck tape scholarship.

The Duct Tape Award goes to the person who can fix anything. They find solutions to problems, no matter what, and usually without complaint. Most people on the team have no idea how to repeat their troubleshooting methods but are just happy the show went on.

How Does Duct Tape Competition Work?

FIRST STEP: MAKE

Using Duck® Brand Duct Tape and/or Duck® Brand Crafting Tape, make your own prom clothes and wear them. Don’t forget to take a high-quality picture of the big event! See the rules for more information.

STEP #2 — SUBMIT

Fill out the entry form, where you’ll upload at least one photo of yourself in your Duck® prom wear and give more information. If you are under 18, don’t forget to get your parent’s permission for the photography release. After you send it, you’ll get a confirmation email right in your inbox.

STEP #3 — VOTE

Eligibility

Be at least 14 years of age.
Be enrolled in a high school or home school association (at the high-school level) during the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Be a legal resident of the United States and the District of Columbus (excluding Maryland, Tennessee, Colorado, Vermont, Nebraska, and North Dakota) or a legal resident of Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec)
Not have been a finalist in any previous Stuck at Prom contests.

Wacky Duct Tape Scholarship Rules

To qualify for Duct Tape Scholarship, you must be a legal resident at least 14 years old. Partners can be of the same sex or of the opposite sex.
You have to go to your high school prom and have a picture taken of you before, during, or after the prom wearing clothes you made out of duct tape.
The costumes must be original, and they will be judged on how well they are made, how authentic they are, how they use color, how they use accessories, and how they use duct tape.
Online voting will be able to be done on photos of the 10 finalist couples.

How much is the Stuck at Prom duct tape scholarship?

One (1) First Place Prize – Dress Category: $10,000 will be awarded to the winning Finalist in the Dress Category.

One (1) First Place Prize – Tux Category: $10,000 will be awarded to the winning Finalist in the Tux Category.

Eight (8) Runners Up Prizes: $500 Cash Scholarship and Duck® Brand Prize Packs (ARV $100 each) will be awarded to the remaining Finalists in each of the Dress and Tux Categories.

Stuck at the prom scholarship deadline of 2023

Eligible Participants will have the opportunity to submit their entry in the Contest from 12:00:00 PM EDT on March 29, 2023, through 11:59:59 PM EDT on June 7, 2023 (the “Entry Period”).

How to make a duct tape dress

If you make your own clothes or want to start, you will need a dressing body to help you make sure they will fit. Now, you could pay a ton of money for an industrial one, or you could make one for less than $15.

Get a helper, it makes it a lot easier.
Wear a well-fitted bra and panties and an old tight t-shirt to help get the shape of the form as close as possible to how your body looks.
Begin wrapping the tape horizontally where you want the bottom of the form to start. Mid-thigh is a great place. Continue until you (or your helper) gets to right under your breasts.
Here, cut the tape after making a complete layer. Now start to vertically cover from the bottom to about one inch below your collarbone.
Resume the horizontal taping from where you left off under the breasts, wrapping until you reach the armpit.
Now vertically wrap from the back over the shoulders to where you left off. The arms will come last.
Be careful to leave at least half an inch between the tape and the skin.
Diagonally make a v-shape from the edge of the tape on the shoulder to where the tape on the chest stops.
On the back, go as high as the shirt will allow you while keeping the half-inch rule in mind.
After there is only a half inch between the skin and the tape, wrap up to the top of the collarbone with plastic wrap or some other cloth. Now cover the neck and the collarbone with tape.
Now it’s time to make the arms.
Starting at the edge of the shoulder, wrap the arms vertically until you are satisfied with the length.
Once you have done this, connect the underarm to the body by following the line of the armpit.
Repeat the taping process two more times, first vertically, then horizontally, smoothing the tape as you go.
Mark off anything you want to keep located such as the waist, hip, etc.
Have your assistant cut a line down the back, being careful not to cut the undergarments or you.
Once you have the form off, close up the cut with additional tape, reinforcing it on both sides.
Close up the bottom with more tape.
Fill the form with some cheap poly batting, taking care to compress it as far as you can.
Close off the top and make a stand (not out of duct tape)

No, They’ve removed the requirement to wear your one-of-a-kind creation to prom. You’ll need to submit at least one photo of you decked out in your Duck Tape prom attire at a location of your choosing.

Do I have to create a video?

No, There are two options for entering the Stuck At Prom contest:

You can create a written essay that details your outfit as requested on the entry form, or
You can create a video that showcases your outfit per the details in the entry form.

Whichever option you choose needs to be submitted when you enter the contest.

Can I still go to the prom as a couple?

Of course, you can, although attending prom is no longer a requirement. But if you and your date will both be creating and wearing Duck Tape fashions, you’ll have to enter the contest separately, in either the “dress” or “tux” categories.

Why can’t I enter if I live in Colorado, Maryland, North Dakota, Nebraska, Vermont, or Quebec?

Because each state has its own laws governing sweepstakes, it’s difficult for us to offer promotions that can be entered by everyone throughout the US and Canada. Unfortunately, Duck Brand® has no control over those restrictions, and the states listed above prohibit entry to this contest.
